Two New Supported Sites – The Onion and LiveLeak

Posted by on Mar 20, 2009 in Change Log | 2 comments

The Onion News NetworkWe are delighted to announce two awesome new additions to our supported sites. They certainly are different in nature but both websites will offer genuine audio-visual riches for many of our channel creators and viewers. The first one is The Onion News Network – a ridiculously funny site (not intended for those under 18), where the masters of fake news push today’s politically correct boundaries in a zany, madcap way usually leaving the viewer in fits of hysterical laughter. Here at WorldTV, we are long time fans of The Onion’s crazy, satirical brand of humor and we are very excited to now be supporting their brilliant video content. You really must check out some of the hilarious clips we found on The Onion News Network, right here on our Best of The Onion News Network channel.

LiveLeak - Redefining The MediaThe second of our two new supported sites is the wonderfully diverse LiveLeak with its mandate of “Redefining The Media”. LiveLeak lets users post and share videos but unlike most video sharing sites out there, it really is super-keen to promote discussion and debate of controversial political, current affairs and real life footage of international events like wars and natural disasters. The site gives users a place to post, comment on and debate anything from citizen journalism, to celebrity gossip, to education reports, to news from the front lines of international war zones, to entertainment updates. To commemorate the addition of this awesome, original video site why not watch a collection of some of Liveleak’s most entertaining clips, according to us, here on our brand spanking new Best of LiveLeak channel.

We hope you love these excellent new supported sites and please feel free to drop us a line at reception@worldtv.com suggesting other video sites we should be supporting.

Last Friday we ventured into somewhat unfamiliar territory, having agreed to produce and direct a Live, two hour fly-on-the-wall documentary from one of London’s finest restaurants.

The idea was to film a special ‘tasting’ event for top London food critics and broadcast it to people around the world via the web. This is the story of how we did it, and what it might mean for WorldTV in future…

Posted by on Mar 5, 2009 in General News | 3 comments

WorldTV in partnership with our friends at Ustream and London’s uber trendy restaurant Galvin at Windows is delighted to bring you our very first official LIVE broadcast taking place this Friday afternoon. It promises to be a truly groundbreaking event, and one not to be missed!

The event is an online stream of an exclusive Champagne and Oyster Tasting featuring some of London’s top food and drink personalities, all from the top floor of London’s famous Park Lane Hilton hotel. We are truly excited to be a part of it.

We will be capturing the event on three separate cameras to give the audience a unique insight into the proceedings and goings on. The restaurant itself is a truly legendary space with arguably the best view of London high above Hyde Park and with panoramic views from all sides.

Galvin ViewA stellar selection of influential food, drink and lifestyle critics and bloggers are all attending and will be using social media applications like Twitter, Qik, live chat and so on to integrate their own audiences and followers. Guests will be presented with several exotic varieties of Oysters and Champagne from some of the finest houses including Galvin itself. Hosting the event for WorldTV is the BBC’s Food and Drink Expert Nigel Barden who will explain all the goings on to the audience following live around the world. Food and wine lovers will get a real treat and something of an education, and it can all be seen gratis at worldtv.com/live.

We are very excited to be producing such an original and innovative show as WorldTV’s first official live broadcast and we look forward to producing many, many more in future.

Don’t forget to tune in this Friday at 4pm UK time or 8am West Coast USA. Twitter users can follow @worldtv for a reminder and our founder @smashing who is producing the event. To follow all event activity use the search tag #galvinw.

WorldTV broadcasts surprise U2 gig LIVE

Posted by on Mar 5, 2009 in General News | 1 comment

U2 live London gigWell this past Friday was an eventful day at WorldTV… thanks to a tip from a friend, the power of Twitter and then a sequence of serendipitous events, WorldTV pushed the envelope using our experimental live channel and broadcast the only LIVE video stream of U2′s surprise gig from a rooftop in central London.

After getting the heads-up from an industry friend, it began with our founder experimenting and creating a live audio broadcast of the band interview preceding the show. It soon became a live global video broadcast as our founder tracked down a video feed of the event from the BBC and made the necessary technical adjustments on the fly. Within minutes more than 500 people were watching the event from the four corners of the earth.

As one WorldTV user said, “… I’d like to thank you for broadcasting live the U2 gig last night in UK. I’m in the Philippines and, obviously, I can’t watch BBC. It was my birthday yesterday and your move was one of the greatest birthday gifts I’ve ever had in my entire life…”

If you missed the gig you can catch it here and watch this space for many more exciting and interesting experiments to come.

If you’re a food or drink lover you won’t want to miss our first ‘official’ live broadcast taking place this Friday.
