1. Juan Manuel Fangio - worldtv.com/juan_manuel_fangio

2. Isaac Hayes - worldtv.com/isaac_hayes

Isaac Hayes RIP best known for his “Theme to Shaft” has left this building for funk Nirvana and will be missed for his crazy suits, deep undertones and song writing, especially for lyrics like “he’s a complicated man, no-one understands him but his woman,,,” Genius!

3. Chè Guevara - worldtv.com/che_guevara

Ernesto Che Guevara has been a global icon for 50 years with the image to the left being one of the most used and recognized images of our generation.  A fascinating man for his dedication and harsh execution of his beliefs and a staple t-shirt for any discerning student.  (Him and Bob Marley..)

Toby’s “Olympic” Choice - Week 4

Featured Channels No Comments »

As we are nicely sandwiched between two Olympic weeks i have decided it would be fitting to embrace the sporting theme and dedicate this weeks Toby’s Choice to the oldest and most prestigious Sporting Event in history, The Olympic Games.

Although perhaps not the stronghold of all things good in Sport it once was due to the increased use of performance enhancing drugs, the questionable location choice with China’s Human Rights record and the daft addition of certain “Olympic” events, The Olympics is still the be all and end all in World Sport and i’m still holding torch for it.

1. Beijing Yes or No - worldtv.com/beijingyesorno

Should this Olympics be in China?  A lot of controversy surrounds this Olympics with Chinas debatable record on Human Rights issues, you decide!

2. Classic Olympics - worldtv.com/classicolympics

A selection of the greatest sporting moments from the modern Olympics, relive those super human achievements where boundaries are broken and world records tumble.

3. Olympic History - worldtv.com/olympichistory

A documentary based channel that looks deep into the Greek origins of The Olympic Games,

WorldTV hits 50,000 channels

Featured Channels, General News 4 Comments »

WorldTV smashed through the 50,000 channel mark last week and the growth shows no sign of slowing down. The interest among people to create their own TV channels from right around the globe is simply phenomenal. Thank you to all those who are contributing to the WorldTV community.

We now have channels from 182 countries, which by our calculation means there is only about 11 countries where there isn’t a channel from. Incredible!

WorldTV first launched in November as a means to allow anyone, anywhere in the World to create their own TV channel, and to offer the capabilities that were once only available to broadcasters. With the service available in 7 languages, people all around the globe are coming up with their own ideas of what a TV channel should look like. More than 400,000 viewers are tuning in to the World Page each month.

The range of channels is simply phenomenal - we’ve enjoyed watching a huge array of genres and styles from across the planet - see below for a small selection of our faves…

Toby’s Choice Week 3

Featured Channels No Comments »

This week Toby’s Choice focuses on channels for children (and their nostalgic parents).  We discovered some time ago that the WorldTV service can be a very useful tool for time starved parents needing quick access to pre-selected bespoke content for their offspring.  Well what better way to monitor your child’s viewing (whilst perhaps secretly enjoying your own past faves) than to create the channel yourself!

1. Bugs Bunny - worldtv.com/bugsbunny

Bugs Bunny has been a cartoon legend now for 68 years! and you simply cannot beat a bit of Bugs!  As you’d expect this channel contains classic BB footage featuring all his favorite enemies, wise cracks and a few carrot dangling rarities thrown in for good measure!

2. Ivor the Engine -  worldtv.com/ivor_the_engine

Ivor the Engine was an absolute classic children’s series from times gone by.  Driven by Edwin Jones through the rolling welsh countryside Ivor charmed a generation and the “che chi puff” of his steam engine is a familiar sound to any British adult over 30.  Innocent and brilliant!

3. Pingu - worldtv.com/pingu

Pingu is a modern classic that has the wondrous ability to hypnotize children into a lovely quiet state.  Once the high pitched squeaking begins kids are transfixed and oblivious to a relaxing parent and i swear if you concentrate hard enough you can understand the language of Pingu, children obviously do!!

Extra Extra!

Tarzan Lord of the Jungle - worldtv.com/tarzanlordofthejungle

I used to LOVE this when i was a slip of a lad and can’t believe i found a channel to rekindle my dreams of swooping through the jungle trees shouting unintelligible nonsense.

worldtv.com/kidsluckydip / worldtv.com/70kidstv

Two more “old school” channels with a mega mix of kids UK screened programs from the 70s & 80s including Wacky Races, Hong Kong Fuey, The Flumps, The Magic Roundabout, Captain Pug Wash, to name but few!

Now then, although English is my mother tongue i don’t want to appear too Anglo centric on Toby’s Choice so here are some more user channels from non-English speaking parts of WorldTV

Italy worldtv.com/cartoon

Brazil worldtv.com/cartoon_network_brasil

Mexico worldtv.com/cartoonvision

I’d love to hear about any other children’s channels on WorldTV, you can contact me at tobyschoice@worldtv.com

To end in the words of the great Bugs Bunny “That’s all Folks!”

Toby’s Choice Week 2

Featured Channels 1 Comment »

My name is not Sophie it is Toby and this is Week 2 of Toby’s Choice.

1. Hot Tuna - worldtv.com/hot tuna

While fishing around on the World Page we hooked a whopper! Hot Tuna is a super surf channel esque channel that instantly clicks the adrenalin junky button with some sub zero river surfing in Berlin! It continues the theme with more slickly branded surf clips promoting the “Hot Tuna” range of clothing. The channel can be found housed on the Hot Tuna home page where they have skilfully linked the Hot Tuna logo to their WorldTV channel thus demonstrating a great commercial use of the WorldTV service. A long term friend of WorldTV we really like what you’ve done here boys and encourage others to do the same!

2. Olga Galavay  - worldtv.com/OlgaKay

I stumbled upon the intriguing Olga this week after she sent in an email with some great positive feedback.  Based in LA Olga is a Comedy Juggler originally from Siberia and her quirky camera friendly style has already amassed 12,000 subscribers on her own You Tube page Her WorldTV channel is a sample of these high quality YT clips showing her range of unique abilities and left field sense of humor in a kind of video diary format.  All power to Olga and keep juggling those different career balls, batons, hoops and nesquik! Click here for Olgas website

3. Redefined Avenue TV - worldtv.com/redefined_avenue_tv

For those of you of the dope beatz persuasion Redefined Avenue TV is a channel featuring a mish mash of fashion, art, promotion, music, advert nostalgia and some killer “dunking”.  Its creator is (i think) an 18yr old called Brey from the UK although the content is very US friendly.  A non descript channel in many ways but I guess i just liked the vibe and the way it flows.  Click here for Breys blog

Some extras:

worldtv.com/Charlie Chaplin Classic Charlie Chaplin clips from a number of his best loved films, starting with his famous “speech” at the end of The Great Dictator (1940) which he both starred in and directed.

worldtv.com/SoulDiscoFunk features a choice selection of music videos predominantly from the 70’s hey day of booty shaking music and wide trousers.

So that’s Week 2 of Toby’s Choice packed and ready to go.  Remember you can contact me with your suggestions at tobyschoice@worldtv.com

Toby’s Choice

Featured Channels 1 Comment »

Toby’s Choice is a new weekly WorldTV blog post featuring a selection of cherry picked channels reviewed by yours truly (above) hence the title (A prize goes to the first person who can now guess my name?).  My aim is to travel through our World of 50K+ channels (latest count) discovering the cream of the crop that won’t necessarily feature in the World Page Top 40 “picks”.  I’ll be looking for channels that display quality and originality in various guises, of all shapes and sizes and I’ll hopefully sniff out some undiscovered gems for your viewing pleasure.

So without further ado lets get the review show on the road and see what we can find lurking beneath the surface.

Week 1

1.    Jazzmode worldtv.com/jazzmodetv

For those of you who enjoy the world of Jazz in its various forms this music adoring channel has some real jewels that had my feet tapping, head jacking and goose bumps dancing to that thing called Jazz..  I particularly love the George Benson video. A quote from the creator. “JazZMode Tv is an integration of Vision and Audio of 20th century’s most profound art form, the Splendid art of Jazz. JMTV delivers Jazz to its viewing audience like never before; taking you on a journey though the history of the art, with interview clips on some the greatest Jazz icons from the past, the present and some phenomenal new talents that are paving the way and leading us into the future of Jazz music.” OBJ Ziniwuchi Ihekoromadu. JazZMode Media Network

2.    The Muppet Show worldtv.com/themuppetshow

The Muppet Show was created by the late great Jim Henson and when i was a kid it was staple Saturday night TV and as a family, we all used to cuddle up on the sofa and watch it together. From 1976–1981 TMS ruled the roost of mainstream TV with its great scripting, music, ageless humor and unbelievably high profile guests who were quite happy to play the fool in front of a huge TV audience.  Looking back with fond memories TMS now seems even more genius and funnier than ever.  Kermit and gang were perhaps victims to special effects sweeping through the 80’s leaving little room for talking puppets but “they don’t make ‘em like they used to” and this is TV gold!

3. You Tubes “Fred” worldtv.com/fred

An example of “like it or loath it” Web TV is “Fred”.  Lucas Cruikshank is Fred, a 14 year old kid (pretending to be 6 yr old with anger management issues) who has now reached 45 million+ views, unbelievable stats given the low budget nature of its content.  I’ve watched a few of the Fred mini-sodes now and while i can completely understand those that find it painfully mind numbing and deeply irritating i happen to think its very well executed, edited and produced and i freely admit i found it rather amusing.  Commercially it has proved its ability to reach the masses with the amazing power of its viral appeal. See what you think? After some delving we discovered that Fred is being sponsored by the ZipIt: http://fredonzipit.com

So thats Toby’s Choice in a WorldTV nutshell, we do hope you enjoyed it, please feel free to send me YOUR recommendations they are ALWAYS welcome!

George Carlin R.I.M.F.P.

The legendary comedian George Carlin who continuously pushed the boundaries of what is socially acceptable has died of heart failure aged 71 and what better way to pay homage to the great man than to watch, listen and laugh to a true pioneer of comedy.

George Carlin Rest in Peace and we hope that the doorman at the Pearly Gates turns a blind eye to your wondrous profanity.

The truth is out there!

Featured Channels 1 Comment »

WorldTV now boasts over 23,000 user channels from the seriously sublime to the ridiculously funny!

We continuously scour our network of channels looking for quality content in all genres and languages. A very popular theme among channel creators seems to be the questioning of modern thought, accepted truths and the uncovering of conspiracy theories

Previously we featured channel Join the Revolution which went right to the top of the World Page charts, this weeks hot tip is Project Matrix! Hailing from sunny Spain and currently riding high at number 4 in the World chart, Project Matrix have created several superb channels probing various globally important topics from the past, present and future. They have also cleverly embedded their channels on their fantastic Project Matrix blog. To quote:

Project Matrix show series and episodes of non-commercial broadcasting, interlinked by various themed reports, covering any news or information that may be “hidden, ignored or suppressed” and is considered of interest to all humanity.”

Project Matrix also took considerable time and effort to give WorldTV some excellent detailed feedback which enables us to develop and improve our service further. This is incredibly beneficial for the success of WorldTV and we encourage all user feedback be it positive or negative..

So thanks Project Matrix from all the team at WorldTV

Earthquake!

Featured Channels No Comments »

earthquakeContrary to the popular 70s “disaster” movie, this is not a film with George Kennedy or Charlton Heston. This is the UK’s biggest earthquake in 25 years!

Now I know this particular “quaking of the earth” may pale into insignificance compared to our transatlantic friends or indeed the rest of the world, but for the Brits in our team, its off the Richter scale!

So to demonstrate our topical nature here at WorldTV we’ve created an Earthquake channel (not including videos from the UK earthquake, as apparently, only a few pictures fell off the wall..)

Scary stuff I’m sure you’ll agree..

Watch the Earthquake channel on WorldTV
