At WorldTV we recognize that privacy is important. This document outlines the types of personal information we receive at worldtv.com (the ‘Site’) and collect when you use WorldTV’s services (the ‘Service’), as well as some of the steps we take to safeguard your information. We hope this will help you make an informed decision and feel confident about sharing your personal information with us.
The information we collect
WorldTV collects three types of information – personal information that you voluntarily disclose to us, website usage information collected by us as you use the Site, and information relating to the content you create while using the Service.
When you register an account with WorldTV (by creating a WorldTV channel) we collect your e-mail address. Occasionally we make use of website forms and surveys to collect other information, for example your name or city or what type of computer you use. We also collect at your option information that allows us to access other 3rd party sources on your behalf (eg Twitter).
When you enter WorldTV, we collect your browser type and IP address, as do almost all websites. This information is gathered for all WorldTV visitors. In addition, we store certain information in your browser using “cookies.” Again, the large majority of modern websites do this. A cookie is a piece of data stored on your computer which helps us to identify you. We use session ID cookies to confirm that you are logged in when you are using the Site. These cookies terminate once you close your browser. This is for your convenience so that you don’t have to keep logging in as you view pages on the Site. You can remove or block this cookie using the settings in your browser if you want to disable this feature, but it may impede your functional use of the site. Optionally, we use a persistent cookie that stores your channel access details after you have closed your browser to make it easier for you to login when you next come back to WorldTV. You must actively choose to enable this optional convenience feature. For more information on cookies read here.
When you create content on WorldTV such as playlists or video, we store this information on our servers. This is obviously the only way we can provide such Service to you.
We do not collect information about e-mail addresses provided through any ‘tell-a-friend’ feature. This information is discarded immediately after use.
How we use your personal information
We use your e-mail address to contact you. In general, we provide the opportunity to opt out of receiving messages, however we reserve the right to send you general notice e-mails important to your account, for the length of time that you maintain an account with us. Generally speaking we offer a ‘very low volume’ e-mail policy. Typically we only send general notice e-mails once every few months.
You always have the option to delete your account if you wish, at which time we will no longer e-mail you, although be advised that due to the nature of off-site backup systems, 3rd party backup systems, persistent storage on hard drives, and permanent backup mediums, some record of your use of the Service is likely to remain somewhere for ever. It is simply not feasible to delete all copies of your information. This is true of virtually all websites, they just don’t tell you this.
We’d like to reassure you that we personally dislike websites that overwhelm their users with unnecessary or promotional e-mails, and that WorldTV does, and will likely continue to operate a very low volume policy when it comes to sending e-mails. We will never sell or rent your e-mail address to others and will only use it to send you e-mail about WorldTV or related sites owned by us. Again and for the purpose of clarity, we won’t inundate you with e-mails.
WorldTV may send you service-related announcements from time to time through the general operation of the Service. For instance, if a friend sends you a message through our messaging service, you may receive an email alerting you to this. As suggested previously, we will generally provide options to control the level of e-mails that you receive including opting out of such alerts.
We collect information about the videos you like to watch so that we can suggest other videos you might like and provide other ‘smart’ services. This is an automated process run by computers (think ‘artificial intelligence’ or more accurately ‘collaborative filtering’) to enhance your user experience. No staff of WorldTV will ordinarily monitor or have access to this information.
Personal Information we share and who we share it with
WorldTV does not rent or sell its email address lists nor does it plan to do so in future. We may share segments of your personal information with our affiliated partners as necessary to complete a transaction that you specifically request; for example if we create a Facebook widget for WorldTV and you wish to tie your account on WorldTV with an account on Facebook, we may provide Facebook with your e-mail address to match your account on our Site with their site. This is for your convenience to speed things up and reduce unneccessary steps.
We use a third-party hosting service (Amazon S3) for backup of content files such as video and images but not personal information (although this may change). Amazon uses very high grade systems for protecting this data from unauthorized access and we will employ recommended standard security approaches.
We may be obliged to share information with law enforcement and particularly if we are subject to subpoena or similar legal action. This is the same of all websites and we would generally not do so willingly unless it was a matter of extreme urgency and someone’s personal safety or reputation was clearly at risk.
Children under the age of 13
WorldTV does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13 or knowingly allow such persons to establish an account. If you are under 13, please do not attempt to create an account on WorldTV or send any information about yourself to us, including your name, address, telephone number, or email address. No one under the age of 13 may provide any personal information to, or on, WorldTV. In the event that we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under the age of 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information immediately. If you believe that we might have any information from, or about, a child under 13 using our Service, please contact us at email@example.com.
How we strive to protect personal information
WorldTV has implemented a variety of high grade encryption and security technologies and procedures to protect information stored in our computer systems from unauthorized access. Credit card numbers are not stored on WorldTV at all, but instead in a top tier, PCI-DSS compliant facility. We also maintain procedural safeguards that restrict access to your personal information to need-to-know employees (or people working on our behalf and under appropriate confidentiality agreements) in order to provide the Service. No system is absolutely secure or fool-proof, and anyone who says differently is being economical with the truth, but we use industry standard security approaches, our own developed approaches, and regularly review our security systems to make our platform the most secure it can be.
